Club Meetings
• Circuit riding rabbis has been part of American Jewish history for over 150 years. It was developed to meet the needs of of small congregations which could not afford full time rabbis of their own. The practice continued through the mid 20th century but since then, as the Jewish community has become more concentrated in larger metropolitan areas, these efforts gradually died out. Dr. Stuart Rockoff, director of the history department at the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life, examines the history of the circuit-riding rabbi throughout American history in his talk "Have Scroll-Will Roll" on May 7 at 2 p.m. in Temple Sinai.
